Lowering the Medicare age has been proposed by Democrats but faces insurmountable obstacles in the current political environment. The cost (estimated at $200B+ over 10 years depending on the new age) makes it a non-starter without Democratic control of both chambers and the White House, and even then the moderate Democrats who blocked it during Biden's Build Back Better negotiations would likely resist again. The fiscal environment of rising deficits further diminishes the possibility.
