Third-party candidates have rarely exceeded 5% in modern elections. Ross Perot (1992, 1996) and Ralph Nader (2000) are exceptions. While voter dissatisfaction with both parties is elevated, structural barriers including ballot access and debate exclusion remain significant obstacles.
