Independent and third-party gubernatorial victories are exceptionally rare in US politics. The last independent governor was Bill Walker of Alaska (2014). While voter dissatisfaction with both major parties is high, the structural advantages of party infrastructure, fundraising, and ballot access make independent victories a long-shot proposition in any given cycle.

Resolves YES if any gubernatorial winner in 2026 runs without the Democratic or Republican party nomination. Candidates who are registered independent, third-party, or no-party affiliation all qualify. Write-in winners also qualify.
